FRONTIER FORTS DAYS Visitors to the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District can get a feel for what life in Texas was like in the 1800s, when forts protected frontier settlements. This weekend, re-enactment groups will set up mock encampments on the lawn of the Exchange Building to represent historic sites on the Texas Forts Trail. There'll be plenty of staged action, such as military drills and artillery demonstrations. Also, check out performances by Cowtown Opry, Celtic Crossroads and the Frontier Brigade

Band.

THE HIDDEN TREASURE Explore the cultures of Indonesia, China, Bangladesh, India, the Philippines, Korea, Pakistan, Singapore and Malaysia at a gala featuring fashion, music, dance, visual art and cuisine. Proceeds will benefit the Indonesian American Education Foundation.

KATY 5K AND PICNIC The fundraising event includes a 5K run and walk and an inline skate course, as well as a short run for kids (dubbed the "point-5K"). Registered participants can attend the Katy Picnic, which will include food samples from 50 local restaurants. The Blenders band

will perform. Proceeds will benefit trail-maintenance efforts of the Friends of the Katy Trail. Participation is limited to

5,000 runners (4,200 participated last year); advance registration is recommended.

MAYFEST Grand Prairie's 10th annual celebration includes outdoor demonstrations and interactive exhibits. There'll be a rock-climbing wall, fly fishing and casting, and archery. Festival attendees can go scuba diving in an above-ground pool. There'll also be arts and crafts vendors, community group performances, a storytelling tent, a petting zoo and wildlife shows.

NATIONAL TRAIN DAY The Texas leg of the national rail festival will include celebrations at Dallas' Union Station, Fort Worth's Intermodal Transportation Center, Grapevine's Cotton Belt Depot and other rail stations around the state. Local passenger rail lines and public transit groups will host rail car tours, as well as information booths about transportation. Also, antique rail cars will be on exhibit at Union Station and in Grapevine. Operation Lifesaver will show a video on how to be safe around trains and at railroad crossings at the Dallas and Fort Worth events. Live music will be on tap at most of the venues.
