North Texas doctor offers cosmetogynecology to women

Wesley Ann Brady, M.D. is a local woman whose career took a turn when she took a chance and stepped outside the world of obstetrics and into the realm of cosmetogynecology. Her new path in medicine not only cares for women's health, it also tackles an issue women often live with but rarely discuss. Her goal is to help women in North Texas be healthy and even improve their sex lives.
Tell us a little about yourself:
I’m a Dallas native who attended Medical School at UT Southwestern, and completed my residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at Baylor University Medical Center. It’s fun to have a professional life in your hometown. I get to see a lot of old friends and eat at some favorite restaurants (Javier’s).
I’ve been in private practice at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas for the last five years, and recently opened the Women's Wellness Institute of Dallas at Park Lane & Central, across from NorthPark Center. It’s been a thrill (and a few headaches) to open my own practice, but I highly recommend being your own boss. My husband, Jeff, anchors News 8 at 5:00 on WFAA-TV. We have two children.
You used to be an Ob/Gyn, but gave up delivering babies.. Tell us about that:
I love working with pregnant women, especially first-time moms, and I’ve delivered hundreds of babies in my obstetric practice. But when I became a mother myself (we’re expecting our third), I wanted more control of my work schedule - especially on nights and weekends. Since newborns don’t allow for much precise planning, I knew I had to make a change.
Your new practice is unique to the DFW area. Could you explain your specialty?
It’s called cosmetogynecology, and combines the full spectrum of gynecologic care with cosmetic vaginal surgery. We provide all the routine gynecologic services, including cancer screenings and hormone replacement therapy. We also offer a wide array of cosmetic procedures including laser hair removal, Botox® and sclerotherapy.
But the focus of my practice is a unique new surgery I conduct on-site in our private surgical suite. Last year, I trained in Los Angeles at the Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation Institute of America to become the first surgeon offering Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation (LVR) and Designer Laser Vaginoplasty (DLV) in Dallas.
What does LVR entail?
It’s a 90-minute outpatient surgical procedure that tightens and tones the pelvic floor muscles and the vagina, primarily to enhance sexual gratification and improve urinary incontinence. Some people use the term “V-Tuck”.
Is it painful? Does it take a long time to recover?
As with all major surgeries, there is some pain associated with the recovery. We control the pain with injections and prescription medications. Some patients require more, some need less. I tell each client to expect six weeks for complete recovery.
How many women, would you estimate, have the issue your specialty addresses?
The medical term is vaginal relaxation, or pelvic prolapse, and it’s actually very common among women who have experienced vaginal deliveries. As a woman ages, pelvic prolapse becomes more common. That being said, most of my LVR patients are relatively young – in their 30s and 40s.The first signs include an unusual pelvic pressure, urinary incontinence or a decrease in sexual gratification.
Is it difficult for most women to discuss?
Sometimes, but it seems to be getting much easier these days, especially as women realize vaginal relaxation is extremely common. I go through quite a few boxes of Kleenex as patients open up for the first time.
