Milkman delivers... a baby!
12:04 PM CST on Wednesday, March 5, 2008
Who says the milkman doesn't deliver, anymore?
He does, and he did.
Bob Hilton, a milkman, found himself delivering a baby in a Frisco parking lot early Tuesday.
The newborn already has a couple of nicknames: Elsie. Thumbelina.
She was born in a Tom Thumb parking lot.
Her parents were panicked. They tried to make it to the hospital.
"I think I was telling [my husband], 'No! Go somewhere else where there's people because we need some help!'" said new mom Francesca Downing. "Sure enough, this truck was coming, and he flagged the man down. And it was a Bordon milk truck."
Hilton grabbed a shoestring out of Jeffrey Downing's shoe and tied off the umbilical cord.
"If it's a girl, name it Elsie. And if it's a boy, name it Bob," Downing remembered Hilton saying before we went away. "We went with Giana."
Bob Hilton was a little disappointed to hear that.
He finally met his special delivery a few hours later at the hospital.
"She's about a five pounder," he said. "About the same weight as a couple gallons of milk."
Think of all the tales -- and jokes -- the Downing family will have to tell as Giana grows up.
"This is the best delivery of them all," said Hilton. "Best delivery of them all."
